Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

Roy Romer Visual and Performing Arts Academy

The Roy Romer Middle School Visual and Performing Arts Academy will empower students through the arts. Each student will have opportunities to find their unique voice and use their talents as tools for connection, change, and growth. Students will also enjoy, appreciate, and participate in art for art’s sake as a core aspect of a meaningful life.

  • Students will learn about what it means to be an artist.
  • Students will learn about the responsibilities one has as an artist.
  • Students will use the arts as a connective tool between individuals and community.
  • Students will explore and empower themselves through their chosen medium.
  • Students will realize the value of the arts as a means of self-expression.

Graphic Design, Music Industry, Film, Writing, Photography, and more

  • Students will log academy-related activities.
  • Students will write journal entries related to the goals of the academy.
  • Students will showcase their learning at the end of each year.
  • Students will seek opportunities to use the arts as a way to connect people.
  • Students will be proactive about using the arts both as a mirror for society and as a method for creating change.
  • Students will embrace the Student Learning Outcomes and use them as a guidepost for all academy activities.

Visual and Performing Arts will consist of approximately 1/4 of the students and teachers from Romer’s home school, as well as parents and staff who wish to join. We plan to partner with community members in our efforts to connect through the arts.

VAPA will afford all students a comprehensive opportunity to experience and develop their artistic talent and aptitudes in the visual and performing arts sector (eg. art, drama, film, tv, music, theater arts)
